The method involves withdrawing non-withdrawn value notes after a cycle of pre-determined time-period in a self-service appliance after supplying value notes from the self-service appliance. Issued value notes are withdrawn from a collection tray (6) into the self-service appliance. The value notes are inspected using a testing device (7). Positively audited value notes are sorted in a value note container (8) having the value notes provided for issuing. Negatively audited value notes are sorted in an intermediate container (9). An independent claim is also included for a self-service appliance with a control panel.
