The warning system has an electronic processing unit (RE) connected with a buffer storage (PSP), where measured data is transmitted to the electronic processing unit. Measured height value is evaluated in an evaluation unit. A signal received using a global positioning system (VI) represents instantaneous position of a ship. A display (D) is provided in a control room. An audio warning system (AWG) emits a warning and calls on a ship captain. Geographical position of the ship is newly determined and is compared with clearance height of the bridge provided in a table.
