The socket (10) has a square-shaped baseplate (12) provided with four side walls (20, 22, 24, 26), where two of the side walls are made of a single piece sheet metal blank and are connected with each other in an area of a bending edge. A bar is provided at the bending edge and connects the side walls with each other. The bar has a breadth reducing in a direction of a crown line of the bending edge and has a minimum breadth at the crown line, where the minimum breadth of the bar is smaller than a total length of the bending edge. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a sheet metal blank for manufacturing a flush-mounted appliance socket (2) a method for manufacturing a flush-mounted appliance socket.
