The method involves measuring a contamination concentration (P) by a contamination sensor. A determination is made whether the contamination concentration is provided below a preset threshold (S) by an electronic controller within a defined time slot (delta t1) before expiration of maximum time (delta tmax). The controller is automatically switched into a fresh air operation within the time slot based on falling of the threshold for a preset time (delta t2) before expiration of the maximum time, where the time slot is smaller than the maximum time.
