The system (10) has a drying tunnel (12) whose interior (18) is filled with inert gas i.e. nitrogen. A pumping device is provided with a piston (38), a piston rod (40) and a hydraulic cylinder (42) for exchanging atmosphere contained in the interior. The piston is drivable into and out from the interior. A displacement volume of the atmosphere is displaced from the interior during driving the piston into the interior. A gas stream is supplied to the interior during driving the piston from the interior. The hydraulic cylinder connects the interior and a piston chamber (36) with each other.
