The meter has controlling-and evaluating device (20) controlling coil arrangements (3, 4) and detecting pressure flow in reference to a stress detected at electrode arrangements (5, 6). The controlling-and evaluating device is designed in such a manner that an increase in a parameter of current is detected during an application of stress at the coil arrangements. The controlling-and evaluating device is designed in such a manner that a flow rate is determined based on the detected parameter of the current increase for compensating an impact of a magnetic characteristic variation of the meter. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an electromagnetic flow meter.
