The arrangement (108) has a base (110), an anode-side coating formed in an anode-side plate (114) and a cathode-side coating formed in a cathode-side plate (112), where the composition of the cathode-side coating is different from that of the anode-side coating. The cathode-side coating consists of metal oxide such as tin oxide. The cathode-side coating is doped with halogen such as fluorine, where the halogen content in the cathode-side coating is not more than 20 weight percentage. The anode-side coating consists of metallic material such as metallic nickel and/or metallic gold. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a bipolar plate arrangement.
