The method involves activating a heating device (5) i.e. grill heating body, of a cooking device (1), and heating a cooking chamber (2) in which a cooking product is provided, and the cooking product is prepared. The heating device is heated in a start-up phase, and a temperature sensor (8) is temporarily cooled for detection of temperature in an environment of the heating device. The sensor is cooled by a cool air stream. The cool air stream is produced by a blower (9) for cooling the sensor. The cool air stream is oriented such that the cool air stream flows against the sensor.
