The felt (1) has an openly manufactured, load-absorbing base structure (2) provided with seam loops (6a, 6b) within area of two opposite ends. The seam loops of the two ends of the base structure are brought in engagement with each other for continuous making of the felt such that an opening (10) is formed, by which an insert wire (7) is conductible. The insert wire includes a core (8) and a casing (9) enclosing the core in sections, where a cross-section surface of the wire is increased when humidity increases in relation to a dry starting condition, in consequence of swelling of the casing. The humidity is provided in a form of liquid water. An independent claim is also included for a method for continuously making and operating an openly manufactured press felt in a paper-, cardboard- or fabric machine.
