Preparation of a dye in a liquid comprises: contacting the liquid with at least one educt; heating the liquid in a microwave oven until a desired amount of dye is formed from the educt; and cooling the liquid, where the production of the dye is spectroscopically monitored by means of a spectroscopic sensor, in a real time manner. An independent claim is included for use of a spectroscopic sensor for monitoring in real-time of a reaction, in which a change occurs in pi-electron system, within a liquid, which is heated in microwave oven.
