The laparoscope (7) has an elongate fixed shaft including a fixed distal part (8) and a fixed proximal part (9) with a proximal end on which a main body (10) i.e. handle, is arranged. A pivoting unit (11) i.e. hinge, is arranged at a proximal end region of the shaft. The pivoting unit allows reversible angular motion of parts of the shaft relative to each other by applying non-destructive holding forces. The parts are attached to the pivoting unit, and the forces are greater than forces that occur during self-retention or manipulation of the laparoscope at the pivoting unit.
