The method involves controlling torque-fluctuation-free and speed fluctuation-free transition from an electromotive drive operation to an internal combustion engine operation. Torque (Mem) of an electric motor is increased linearly by an amount that corresponds to amount of dragging torque of the engine, where the torque of the motor is increased till auto restarting of the engine. The torque of the motor is reduced when the torque is smaller than the dragging torque of the engine, where the torque of the motor is reduced till auto restarting of the engine. An independent claim is also included for a parallel hybrid drive train comprising an electric motor.
