The method involves exponentiating a measured voltage value applied at two loads, in an actuator control unit (3) using a correction factor. The exponentiated value is multiplied with a synchronous measured load current value or divided by the current value, in the control unit. A value resulting from the multiplication or division is compared with a reference value in a comparator unit (8). Load loss is detected when difference between the resulting value and the reference value exceeds a preset value. An independent claim is also included for a device for detecting load loss.
