The sound-generating reed (10) is fastened to a wind instrument by a mouthpiece in a detached manner. The sound-generating reed is vibrated by a musician during playing the instrument by an air stream. An inner side is pointed to an air opening and an external side (2) of the reed. A cut out (3) is provided in the direction of a reed tip (4) towards the musician. The height of the cut-out is equal to the width of the reed in its cross section. The reed comprises multiple layers of fiber-reinforced plastic.
