The device (1) has an upper catch roller (2) and a lower catch roller (3) between which a web (9) to be printed runs in a normal operation of a printing machine. The upper catch roller is transferred in a direction of motion of the web relative to the lower catch roller during release of device such that the contact angle of the web around one of the catch rollers is in the range of 25-30 degree. A surface of one of the catch rollers is chromium plated and/or shot-blasted, where one of the rollers is operated by a motor.
