The method involves processing two-dimensional X-ray images of an investigation object by an image processing unit, and determining deformation of a patient support device and/or an adjustable C-arm in all directions. An effect of deformation in the X-ray images is partly balanced by processing the two-dimensional X-ray images or reconstructing the two dimensional X-ray images to a three-dimensional volume image while loading the two dimensional X-ray images. An independent claim is also included for an X-ray unit for producing an X-ray image of an investigation object.
