The method involves producing a magnetic field (B) within a limited spatial area by magnetic-field generating sources, where the sources comprise four oblong permanent magnets (PI, PM) that are pre-magnetized with respect to a longitudinal axis. The magnetic field is adjusted by rotating one of the sources about an axis or by rotating the sources about different axes such that magnetic field strength is varied within the spatial area in steady magnetic field direction. An independent claim is also included for a device for generating a homogeneous magnetic field within a limited spatial area.
