The method involves measuring an absolute yaw angle by a sensor i.e. magnetic field sensor, when a person or an article moves translatorily, and detecting a resting phase by a detector when the person or the article does not move translatorily. An actual yaw angle is measured at beginning of the resting phase, and the absolute yaw angle is subtracted from the actual yaw angle. An estimated value is determined based on a finally measured absolute yaw angle and added to a difference value of the absolute yaw angle and the actual yaw angle.
