The device has a light absorbing optical barrier (5) provided between a light emitting unit i.e. solid body light source (2) e.g. LED or semiconductor diode, and a light receiving unit i.e. solid body photodetector (4), where the device is in the form of a surface element. An electrode surface is provided at a surface element and is brought in contact with a vessel. The surface element comprises a surface substrate (1), which consists of a biocompatible material and is made of polyimide. A surface upper side of the substrate is sealed with a light-transparent sealing compound i.e. silicone.
