The device has a vibration device (2), and a post (1) in form of a main pipe (3) that is firmly connected with the vibration device. The post is in form of a measuring pipe (4) that is arranged in extension of the main pipe. The measuring pipe is moved along an axis (Z) in longitudinal direction with respect to the main pipe. A pipe is fittingly arranged at an inner wall of the measuring pipe for shielding the inner wall. The pipe is firmly connected with the main pipe. An actuating device ensures locking and movement of the measuring pipe with respect to the main pipe. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining load capacity of a post that is positioned on soil by vibration.
