A method for dynamic determination of a remaining actual service life for a filter in a filter device comprises: determining an initial remaining operating time on the basis of an installation date of the filter and an initial expected service life; periodically determining a remaining actual operating time of the filter on the basis of the initial remaining service life, and since the installation date elapsed operating time; monitoring at least one operating parameter, in the filter apparatus; adjusting the remaining actual operating time on the basis of the monitored operating parameter and continue with the periodic determination of the remaining actual operating time on the basis of the adapted remaining actual operating time and the elapsed operating time.
