The laser ignition system (1) has a laser unit (11) for producing laser impulses and a pumping light source (13). Another laser unit (12) is optically stimulated by the pumping light source and emits light. The latter laser unit serves the former laser unit for the optical stimulation. The pumping light source has a semiconductor laser.
