The brake (1) has a brake shaft (3) supported in a stationary housing (2). A brake disk packet (6) is arranged between the housing and the shaft. A part of piston (8) and cylinder (7) is acted upon by resiliently prestressed force transducer (10) and is held in braking position (11). The unit forms a hydraulic chamber (9) that is ventilated by hydraulic fluid. A differential coefficient of friction and sliding speed at the packet is less than equal to 0.1. Brake torque of a standstill brake (13) is larger than brake torque of the packet, which acts in standstill of the shaft.
