The system has an electronic engine control system (MMS) provided in communicative connection with a weight computation module (mBM) e.g. on-board system (BoS), for transmission of energy consumption data (V) of a motor vehicle e.g. truck. A satellite detection module (SOM) e.g. global positioning system module, is in communicative connection with the weight computation module for transmission of vehicle position data. The weight computation module has a computation program for computing total weight of the vehicle from the energy consumption data and vehicle position data. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining total weight of a motor vehicle using a weight determination system.
