Method for joint production of methyl formate and furan comprises (a) decarbonylating furfural to furan and carbon monoxide and separating into furan-containing stream and carbon monoxide containing stream, (b) separating carbon dioxide and water from at least a part of the carbon monoxide-containing stream, and (c) reacting at least a part of the purified carbon monoxide with methanol to methyl formate.
