The method involves mechanically breaking bean fruits and/or seeds into 4 or 6 pieces. The broken bean fruits and/or seeds are fluidized in a fluidized layer in a fluidized bed apparatus (1) using a fluidizing gas stream at a speed of 1.5 to 1.8 m per second. The fluidizing gas stream above or beneath an upper region of the fluidized layer is immediately drawn off at a speed of 3.5 to 5 m per second such that a shell part is discharged out of the apparatus in the fluidizing gas stream. The broken bean fruits and/or seeds are spread out of the apparatus after a retention time of 6 to 8 minutes. An independent claim is also included for a device for performing a method for hulling bean fruits and/or seeds.
