The method involves controlling availability of a communication device (3) i.e. wireless phone, depending on an activity and/or activation of a driver assistant system (2) of a motor vehicle (1), where the driver of the motor vehicle is provided with a wireless communication. The communication device is operated when the driver assistant system is active or activated. The driver assistant system is automatically activated when communication with the communication device is started, where the driver assistant system assists the driver in distance maintenance or lane maintenance. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle with a communication device.
