The method involves representing a preset master image (1) in number of different resolution stages (A1-An), and determining a set of pass point areas (3) in each stage. A test image (2) is provided with the same number of resolution stages (B1-Bn) as the master image. Difference vectors between the pass point areas of the resolution stages of the master image and pass point areas (4) of the corresponding resolution stages of the test image are calculated when a preset number of pass point areas is detected at the resolution stages in the test image.
