The earthwork has a dam crown (2) and water-side and land side counter bearings that are placed on two sides of a core, where the earthwork is made of a natural earthwork material (6). The natural earthwork material is homogenized by uniformly adding a natural or artificial source material (7) that expands during contact with water, where the natural earthwork material is selected from a group of clay, mud or soil like mass. Moisture content of the core is adjusted to moisture content of the counter bearings, and width of the core corresponds to width of the crown. An independent claim is also included for a method for production of an earthwork.
