The system (10) has a device producing a haptic signal and arranged in a vehicle seat (14) of a motor vehicle, where the haptic signal is produced over an end of a freewheeling path. A body part of a driver is brought into a starting position from a resting position for operating the motor vehicle by the haptic signal producing device. The signal is transmitted to the driver through vibration or impulse at an accelerator pedal (24). An independent claim is also included for a method for transmitting a signal to a driver of a motor vehicle.
