The method involves estimating a position of potential intruders in a strait monitoring zone (12). The probability of presence of the intruders in each point of the zone is estimated, and the non presence probability corresponding to the presence probability is calculated, during estimation of locations, in which the intruders can not be moved. The intruder position and location estimations are performed simultaneously, such that the presence and non presence probabilities are not deduced one from another, where the probabilities consider target detection probabilities.
