Cloud's e.g. anvil-shaped cumulonimbus cloud, convection intensity characterisizing method for e.g. X-band airborne radar, in aircraft, involves characterisizing cloud as convective and stratiform when profile is equal to respective values
The method involves discretizing reflectivity distribution along a network of points in a three dimensional space. A global profile (22) is defined as a function (23) i.e. real two-dimensional function, of a parameter (21) e.g. horizontal gradient. The function is enabled to vary uniformly between minimum and maximum constant values, where the function is equal to the minimum and maximum values when a parameter value is less than minimum and maximum thresholds, respectively. A cloud is characterisized as convective and stratiform when the profile is equal to the respective values.
