The method involves performing recurrent emission of vehicle exit proximity request signal for each set of exits by an antenna embarked on-board of the vehicle. An exit proximity confirmation signal is emitted during presence of a key e.g. transponder thin lock, in a perimeter very close to the exit, in response to reception of the exit proximity request signal by the key. The exit or group of exits near of which the key is detected is automatically unlocked by the vehicle, and the set of other exits of the vehicle is unlocked after opening of the unlocked exit or group of exits. An independent claim is also included for a device for free hand unlocking an exit of a vehicle.
