The method involves estimating nitrogen oxides formation volumetric rate, during course of combustion cycle based on formed nitrogen oxide quantity. The estimated volumetric rate is compared with a nitrogen oxides formation volumetric rate setpoint. An anti-pollution system and/or combustion system is controlled, if the estimated volumetric rate is higher than the nitrogen oxides formation volumetric rate setpoint. The combustion cycle is passed to next combustion cycle, if the estimated volumetric rate is lower than the nitrogen oxides formation volumetric rate setpoint.
