The device has particle filters (28, 52) respectively placed in an exhaust line (18) of an engine and an exhaust gas recirculation circuit. The filters are located in a manner to be traversed by a part of exhaust gas transferred to an intake manifold. The particle filter (52) is placed in downstream of the filter (28), and filters the particles from internal combustion like the filter (28). A logic controller (60) compares the permeability of the filter (52) with a reference permeability threshold for detecting clogging of the filter (52). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an internal combustion engine assembly comprising a diesel engine (2) a method for controlling an internal combustion engine assembly.
