The backrest (1) has an armature that is under the form of a hollow body (4) made of plastic material e.g. polypropylene or polyurethane, reinforced by fibers e.g. glass fibers. The body has an internal space filled by a foam material adhered to the body, where chemical nature of the foam material is same as that of the plastic material. Associating units e.g. overmolded nuts, associate the backrest to two arms (2) of a seat. The body has a lateral housing to receive an airbag, and a central upper projection (5) fitted in a housing of a headrest (6) to form a headrest support.
