The method involves detecting a person (16) outside a defined zone (1) by person locating units (10), where the locating units determine location of the person within or outside the zone using wireless fidelitypositioning system or radio frequency identification (RFID) locating technology. State of a computer (11) allocated to the person is changed by a remote control unit (13) in response to the detection of the person, based on pre-established rules. The state is changed by closing a session of the user on the computer, or locking, switching off or restarting the computer. An independent claim is also included for a system for managing computing equipment in a defined zone.
