A method of repairing steel reinforced concrete comprises removing the damaged concrete and cleaning the exposed steel 3 to form a first cavity 2, forming a smaller second cavity 4 in the concrete 7 which has been exposed by the first cavity, placing a sacrificial anode assembly 5 in the second cavity 4, connecting the anode of the sacrificial anode assembly 5 to the exposed steel 3 via a connector 6 and covering the sacrificial anode assembly by filling the first cavity with a profile restoring concrete repair material. The sacrificial anode assembly is formed of a sacrificial anode which is formed of a metal with a more negative electrode potential than steel, an activating agent which may coat the sacrificial anode and a pliable viscous ionically conductive backfill or filler which may be formed of lime putty. In practice, the second cavity is formed by coring or drilling and then filled with the backfill before the sacrificial anode is inserted.
