PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a neutron image detector exhibiting a high positional resolution using a superconductor operatable at the temperature of liquid He.;SOLUTION: MgB2 containing 10B as a compositional material and concentrating 10B having a large energy gap is employed as a neutron detection plate. In order to detect phonon being generated by α ray emitted upon impingement of a neutron, phonon sensors each having such a structure as an insulation layer and Mg11B2 concentrating 11B of low energy gap are laid in layer sequentially are disposed in the center and at four corners and the impinging position of neutron is detected using strength of signal and signal propagation time.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
