PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting tool tip and a machining method, making it hard for an O-ring to come off a ring groove of a cylindrical object, and suppressing burrs in machining.;SOLUTION: The cutting tool tip has: a rectangular cross section; and curved recesses formed in mutually parallel groove shape in two facing sides. The cutting tool tip is pressed to the peripheral surface of a workpiece to form a rectangular ring groove, and one side out of the two facing sides of the cutting tool tip is pressed to one wall surface of the ring groove to form a protrusion on the wall surface by the curved recess, while the other side of the two facing sides of the cutting tool tip is pressed to the other wall surface of the ring groove to form a protrusion on the wall surface by the curved recess.
