PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image updating system which is capable of reducing rewrites in frequency so as to lengthen the service life of a rewritable recording medium by updating image data only when the image data recorded in the rewritable recording medium are changed.;SOLUTION: The image data updating system updates image data recorded in a rewritable recording medium. The updating system is equipped with a reading unit 34 which reads management data given to the recording medium, a communication unit 46 which requests an information source 52 to send image data and/or management data based on the management data that is read through the reading unit 34 and receives them sent from the information source 52, a determining unit 48 which determines whether it is necessary to update the image data recorded in the recording medium or not based on the image data or management data received by the communication unit 46, and an updating unit 22 which updates the image data and management data recorded in the recording medium when the judging unit 48 determines that updating is necessary.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
