PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an encoder having small size and low power consumption.;SOLUTION: In the code disk 4, a low emissivity region 2 and a high emissivity region 3 are alternately arranged in a circumferential direction to form a code. When the code disk is rotated, infrared radiation from the low emissivity region 2 and the high emissivity region 3 is detected by non-contact infrared sensors 1a, 1b.
