PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of increasing efficient use of the upstream bandwidth of in an Ethernet (R) passive optical network (EPON), wherein the occupancy reported in an optical line terminal device is not rounded-up but instead is rounded-down, depending on the embodiments.;SOLUTION: An optical network unit not only determines whether it is required to round-up or round-down the occupancy, but also reports the occupancy, in a reporting unit which is rounded out or rounded down in the optical line terminal device.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
