PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce total quantity of color material required for reproduction while suppressing looseness of letter edges. PSOLUTION: An image area determination means 101 determines whether an attention area is a character edge area or a character inner area, a bold letter or a fine letter, and a high density area, a middle density area, or a low density area. A color conversion means 104 outputs a high-density letter by using K, outputs a low-density fine letter with Lk, and outputs a low- or middle-density bold letter edge with Lk, and the letter inner area with a single color K.
