PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject filter material using cellulose ester microfiber having great specific surface area and excellent papermaking capability. ;SOLUTION: The subject cellulose ester microfiber has the following characteristics: Canadian standard freeness: 100-700 mL, and (1) BET specific surface area: ≥5 m²/g, or (2) microfiber 50-250 μm in diameter accounts for 10-70% of the total fiber count. Using such microfiber, the objective filter material suitable to filters for cigarette smoke is obtained; wherein the cellulose ester to be used is cellulose acetate or the like.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
