PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tracking and sighting instrument with high tracking precision. PSOLUTION: The tracking and sighting instrument includes a torque detector 9 for detecting a drive torque of a coarse drive source 4 to a coarse adjustment mechanism 2 and a determination unit 8 for determining whether the coarse adjustment mechanism 2 is in a stationary state to a base mount 1. When it is determined that the coarse adjustment mechanism 2 is in a stationary state by the determination unit 8 and it is detected that the drive torque acts on the coarse adjustment mechanism 2 by the torque detector 9, a controller 7 operates a fine drive source 5. Therefore, even when the coarse adjustment mechanism 2 receives static friction resistance between the base mount 1 and is in a stationary state, a fine adjustment mechanism 3 operates to track a target M.
