PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accomplish phase-continuous optical frequency shift modulation with an arbitrary shift amount and modulation degree.;SOLUTION: A phase-continuous optical frequency shift modulator (1) comprises: an optical frequency shift modulator (2); a power supply system (8) for applying a sine wave clock signal (4, 5) to an electrode (3) of the optical frequency shift modulator, and applying a baseband signal 6 having a predetermined phase difference (Δψ) from a phase of the sine wave clock signal to an electrode (7) of the optical frequency shift modulator; and an initial phase controller (9) for controlling a phase of input light to be inputted to the optical frequency shift modulator (2) synchronously with the baseband signal (6), and for compensating for a phase gap that occurs in the optical frequency shift modulator (2) when switching the baseband signal (6) and becomes an error of the phase difference (Δψ).;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
