The present invention relates to a process for treating an aqueous effluent comprising at least one dissolved gaseous compound, for example carbon dioxide, consisting in at least partly separating said compound from said effluent, for the purpose of obtaining a treated aqueous phase depleted in said compound, in which process: (a) a rising liquid column of the aqueous effluent is established, by injecting into and distributing in said column, at the bottom, a gaseous phase less rich in said compound than the aqueous effluent, for example air or oxygen, said gaseous phase being distributed within said column in the form of bubbles, the volume of which increases towards the top, by means of which, at the top, a mixed liquid/gas stream is obtained; (b) the mixed liquid/gas stream is separated into a liquid stream constituting the treated aqueous phase and a gaseous effluent stream enriched in said gaseous compound, characterized in that the mixed liquid/gas stream is separated under reduced pressure, by establishing a gaseous overhead between the liquid stream and the gas stream, and by drawing on the latter.
