This invention relates to development of field experimental set up for swelling pressure tests for black cotton soils and the like, it helps for the determination of field swelling pressure of the expansive soil which is the prerequisite for the construction of foundation in black cotton soils with swelling and shrinkage problems. In the known art, a crude method used is determination of laboratory swelling pressure of black cotton soils/ expansive soils using 25 mm high consolidation ring which is very small and results of swelling pressure are deviated due to the scale effect. Another advantage of this invention is to provide in-situ swelling pressure of the black cotton soils, which is actually developed around footing by lmxlmxlm mass of the swelling soil. Since the swelling pressure determined in laboratory is not realistic & affected by different parameters, there is definite need of determination of swelling pressure of soil on larger scale i.e. determination of field swelling pressure which is very much needed whenever the case of construction of foundation in black cotton soils arises. The object of the invention is to develop a field experimental set up for determination of field swelling pressure to obviate the said defects and to reduce the scale effect developed in the laboratory determination. It is also the object of the invention to suggest an innovative method for determination of swelling pressure of black cotton soils, which is very simple in field. According to this invention a field experimental set up for swelling pressure test is developed by constructing two tanks, one inner perforated RCC tank & another brick masonry tank with loading frame & all arrangements as described & claimed. Thus, an innovative field experimental set up has been developed to overcome the disadvantages of the old crude system. Following invention is described in detail with the help of Fig. 1 which shows the plan for proposed field experimental setup for swelling pressure determination and Fig 2 showing cross section for proposed field experimental setup.
