Accordingly, there is provided a compact device for producing and feeding uniformly bent wire for oscillating the arc in narrow gap gas metal arc welding procedure, the device comprising a wire spool accommodating a continuous straight wire. A wire-feeder drawing the wire from the wire-spool via a wire- guide for feeding the wire into a wire-bending means, the wire-bending means configuring the fed wire into a sinusoidal wave form. The bent wire oscillating the arc after passing through the torch at the tip of the wire inside the narrow groove. The compact device is particularly adaptable for uniform beding and feeding of smaller diameter wires into a uniform wave shape. The device has two spider wheels each being coupled to a gear which mesh together during operation. One of the spider wheels is mounted on a slide and is adjustable, thereby varying the center distance of the spider wheels. The wire feed motor also drives the spider wheel through a pair of meshing gears. The wire is bent into the required shape by a plurality of free rotating grooved rolls carried on spider wheels. The device is capable of bending the wire smoothly into a sinusoidal wave form without sharp bends by the grooved rools during the rotation of the spider. Various wires up to 1.6mm diameter can be used in this method. The wave shape of the wire can be altered by varying the diameter of the freely rotating rolls, adjusting the center distance between the spider wheels by adjusting the slide position. The device housing the wire bending and feeding into a single module. Any wire without any bending can also be fed by the same device. This enables the welding of the joint roots, which does not require any oscillation. The smooth bending of the wire (wave form) enables the wire to be fed through the long torch to the arc location without interruption or difficulty.
